Condition
Bipolar Disorder
Our expert providers collaborate with patients to create personalized treatment plans for bipolar disorder, which may include behavioral strategies, therapy, and, when appropriate, medication management. Our goal is to help individuals stabilize their mood, manage symptoms effectively, and lead fulfilling, balanced lives.
What is Bipolar?
Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). During manic episodes, individuals may experience elevated mood, increased energy, and impulsive behavior, while depressive episodes can lead to feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities.
Types of Bipolar
Bipolar I Disorder: Characterized by at least one manic episode that lasts at least seven days or by manic symptoms that are so severe that immediate hospital care is needed. Depressive episodes are also common, typically lasting at least two weeks.
Bipolar II Disorder: Defined by a pattern of depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes (less severe than full manic episodes), but without the full-blown manic episodes typical of Bipolar I.
Cyclothymic Disorder (Cyclothymia): Involves periods of hypomanic symptoms as well as periods of depressive symptoms lasting for at least two years (one year in children and adolescents). However, the symptoms do not meet the diagnostic requirements for a hypomanic episode or a depressive episode.
